Here Are 6 Great Tips On Meeting Your New Neighbors During COVID 19 Restrictions

Moving to a new home in a new neighborhood can be both stressful and exciting. The stress comes from the process of the move – sorting, packing, the move itself, and the excitement comes from the fact you are moving to a new home in a new neighborhood. Meeting your new neighbors can be challenging, especially with the effects of socially distancing due to COVID-19.

Here are some useful ways to overcome the challenge of meeting your new neighbors in our new normal:

Take regular walks around the neighborhood

Taking a casual walk around your area is a great way of meeting your neighbors. If you have a dog, chances are better of striking up conversations, especially with neighbors who have dogs.

Take walks with the family

Kids present a very good opportunity to interact with your neighbors. Go out for regular walks with your kids and when you meet neighbors walking with their kids during your walk, you will find that you can easily start up a conversation after introducing yourself.

Host a socially distanced outdoor get-together

Once you have unpacked and settled down, host a small outdoor gathering for your nearby new neighbors when restrictions have somewhat eased and you feel comfortable. Create an invitation introducing yourself as a new neighbor, together with the event details. This is a safe way to introduce yourself, mingle socially and get to know your neighbors.

Ask questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions about various issues like garbage and recycling pick up days, where to get the “best pizza” in the neighborhood, and so on. You can ask neighbors as they walk by your home. This can be a great way to start up a conversation or uncover a shared interest.

Drop a letter of introduction in the mailbox

A small letter of introduction dropped off into your neighbors’ mailbox, is a great way of starting a future conversation. Introduce yourself and your family and provide your phone number or email, so that you can connect in the future.

Attend community functions and gatherings when possible

With social distancing protocols in place, many community events are currently being shelved. But as events are gradually opening up, make sure you attend all the events so that you can meet members of the community and your neighbors
